2018 DTE Energy Small Business Contest Entry (selected as one of the finalists)

Hi DTE/WOOD Radio,
Thanks for the opportunity to enter the small business spotlight contest! We’d like to enter our small business, Zaagman Home Remodeling. Founded in 2008, we’ve been helping customers throughout the West Michigan area make their remodeling dreams come to life. Providing exceptional service with extraordinary results, custom kitchen and bathroom remodels are most requested but we help with pretty much any home remodeling needs.

Since our founding, we’ve bootstrapped our growth. We’ve never taken out a loan or outside financing to grow our business. We’ve been intentional on growing our business organically and debt-free over the years. Becoming personally debt free, including our mortgage by age 25 and appearing on the Dave Ramsey Show in 2013 to be interviewed for our debt free scream enabled us to grow our business steadily to what it is today.

As of 2018, we employ 3 full-time employees and are continuing to grow. As a husband and wife owned and operated business, we partner with as many local businesses as possible to keep business moving through the West Michigan area. Whether outsourcing and collaborating with qualified designers, vendors or subcontractors, we enjoy working with other small business owners to mutually grow our experience and portfolios.

Being selected for this award would greatly enable us to continue expanding in to 2019. We are hoping to purchase another company vehicle and an enclosed trailer to make traveling to job-sites throughout West Michigan more efficient. Being selected for this contest would make the dream of expanding our small business in this way attainable, as we continue to invest in other areas of our company.

Lastly, our faith has led us to put God first in everything we do and look at our business as an extension of the gifts and talents He has blessed us with. We make it a priority to share 10% of our income with non-profit organizations throughout the year. It is our desire to use our services not only to bless our customers but those around the world in need.
